Mumia on John Hope Franklin

More than a week ago, the great Afican-American historian John Hope Franklin passed away. A man of great scholarship and of great accomplishments, Franklin not only recorded the past struggles and triumphs of his people but participated in the history of now making possible the changes that historians of the future will pen. President Barack Obama said of the true subversive historian, “Because of the life John Hope Franklin lived, the public service he rendered, and the scholarship that was the mark of his distinguished career, we all have a richer understanding of who we are as Americans and our journey as a people.”

Mumia Abu-Jamal, a black political prisoner who continues to languish behind bars in the “age of Obama,” also ruminated about the life and the legacy of Franklin. Since the corporate media ignores the voices of the incarcerated, especially the eloquence of Abu Jamal, I post his longform commentary¬† here.:
