The long struggle for hotel workers at select Downtown Disneyland Resort Area Hotels enters a new phase tomorrow. Keeping up the pressure on the mega-corporation to provide living wages and health care benefits to those who toil to make the stay of tourists enjoyable, union organizers will be hosting a holy week action to bring attention to the issue.
An online description of the action is as follows:
This action will include symbolically delivering bitter herbs to Mickey Mouse and the Paradise Pier Hotel and a short procession towards “the land of milk and honey” where we will thank employers who currently provide the healthcare benefits that the Disney workers seek to protect in their contract settlement. These symbols come from the Passover Sedar as well as from the Exodus story and will be used to call Disney to leave the bitterness of oppression and let the workers go to a land of greater justice.
There’s nothing worse than a corporation who projects the image of ‘the happiest place on Earth,’ yet still finds it fit to oppress the mostly immigrant Latina workforce that sustains its surrounding hotels. For those in solidarity, the action, again, takes place tomorrow from 4:30 – 6:30 p.m. at the Paradise Pier on 1600 S. Disneyland Drive in Anaheim. Muera Mickey Rat!
