International lecturer Gregorio Luke is returning to Santa Ana’s historic Yost Theater this Saturday with a multimedia presentation on Mexican cinema. The significance of the subject matter the former director of the Museum of Latin American Art in Long Beach will be delving into this weekend will not be lost on those who are aware of the history of the theater. Before the city of Santa Ana hoodwinked and bamboozled the Yost out of the hands of the Olivos family that owned it for decades, the theater reached a cultural apex in Southern California as a movie house for the golden age of Mexican cinema. Name any famous film persona from Mexico – like say Cantinflas – and they appeared at the Yost during its heyday.
Now El Centro Cultural de Mexico is returning the theater to its storied past and its rightful place – at least for one day – with this Saturday’s lecture by Luke. It is certainly not to be missed!
