Break out the blindfolds and the wooden sticks, it’s “Piñata” time for local musician Pilar Diaz! In support of her self-titled solo album released late last year, the genre-bending Chilena songstress is hitting fans up with a new music video for her single “Piñata.” Directed by Jose Asuncion, the video is set in a big backyard with lots of kids running around whacking a piñata hoisted up by Diaz. This birthday party ritual doesn’t rain down candy from its punctured wounds, however. Instead, with each successive swing from one little girl who resembles Pilar, blood squirts the unsuspecting children until she is chased down, hoisted up and transformed into a piñata herself!
Just one question though: where is the lil’ vato who’s dad left him and is filled with internal anger issues? Everyone knows it’s that kid who does a number on piñatas at parties and destroys them with cathartic swings of rage making his tias say, “Ay mira, he should be in baseball!”
